Director of Business Development, Seagate Branded Division

Working as part of Product Line Management and Business Development team for Seagate's Retail Division, the Director of Business Development will report to the Senior Director of Product Line Management in the corporate headquarters in Cupertino, CA.  This role will be focused on business development activities for software, cloud services, content, and IP.  This role would be responsible for evaluating potential partners, technologies, and relevant eco-systems, specifically around storage applications, cloud services, media management, and premium content.
Key Responsibilities include:
Develop understanding of application and product trends and develop points of view for future market shifts; develop product portfolio scenarios for comparing business, technical, financial, and strategic options.
Develop competitive landscapes for the potential partners, solutions, and platform ecosystems that we want to evaluate.

Identify, evaluate, and recommend potential partners for some of Seagate’s most exciting storage products, including:

Seagate Wireless Plus - Seagate’s portable wireless hard drive that streams content to an iPad, Android tablet, Kindle, or smartphone.

Seagate Central - Seagate’s home cloud device that enables users to wirelessly back up files from a PC or Mac, share photos with friends and family, stream content to mobile and Smart TV platforms, and access content from anywhere in the world.  

Small Business NAS - Seagate’s SMB focused network attached storage devices. 

Seagate Backup Plus – Seagate’s flagship external hard drive.
Lead and manage all software, service, and content license agreements, co-marketing agreements, LOIs, term sheets, NDAs, etc.
Structure the right deal for each partner, and manage and grow the relationships over time.

Model the impact of different financial scenarios to recommend the right business model for each partnership.

Identify and track key partner metrics to evaluate the performance of each partner. 

Help launch, evangelize, and manage Seagate’s SDK program and ecosystem, including identifying potential partners, executing contracts, and helping partners implement Seagate’s SDKs.

Job will require traveling to meet with potential and existing partners.  Assume 10-15% travel.



  • 10-15 years of experience, with at least 3-5 years of experience in a business development or corporate development role negotiating and executing deals.  
  • Experience working with outside partners to create and maintain business relationships including contracts and negotiations.
  • Experience identifying and evaluating external partners and technologies, specifically in the areas of cloud services, digital media, consumer software, and premium content.
  • Experience performing competitive analysis/landscaping, particularly in the areas identified above would be an advantage.
  • Experience promoting, developing, and managing a new SDK ecosystem would be a plus.
  • Experience working across multiple organizations and cross-functional groups to move projects forward.
  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred
