Sourcing Consultant – LRL (PCD3) Procurement

The LRL PCD3 procurement sourcing consultant will serve as a business partner to the Lilly PCD3 organization. This will be responsible for strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier management for several different spend categories primarily focused on support of SMDD development/research services (e.g. formulation/pre-form services, product innovation services, process technology engagements, etc.) and API, starting materials and general raw materials for pre-commercial small molecules. Additionally, this position will have sourcing responsibilities for material management services, and parenteral drug product CT supply for CTMMS organization. The associate will need to work closely with this organization to address their business needs and requirements; understand the marketplace to insure a competitive environment and propose new opportunities; and partner with finance, external sourcing, quality, legal, and other functional groups to deliver the best results to Lilly.

Job Responsibilities

Account Management:

  • Understand the needs and requirements of the business partners
  • Educate the business partners on procurement practices and requirements
  • Build strong working relationships with business teams and management
  • Use data and metrics to suggest and drive business and operational improvements
  • Proactively communicate the progress of deliverables and projects

Category Management:

  • Build and maintain category expertise in assigned categories
  • Develop and implement category strategies for key areas of spend by accessing the current situation, future business needs, marketplace dynamics, and best in class benchmarking data
  • Complete the identification and selection process for adding or changing suppliers
  • Lead the contract strategy development and negotiation process
  • Partner with business to manage strategic supplier relationships


  • Partner with Lilly PCD3 business partners to identify and manage risks, drive flexibility, and reduce costs
  • Participate on cross functional procurement initiatives
  • Adhere to all corporate and procurement policies and procedures


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 plus years of chemistry experience in research/laboratory/manufacturing or drug development
  • 3 plus years of experience working with external suppliers
  • Understanding of drug development process and GMP requirements
  • Previous Procurement experience
  • 3 years of direct negotiation experience and understanding of the commercial laws preferred
  • Qualified candidate must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this position.


Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Basic understanding of chemistry and experience in research/laboratory/manufacturing or drug development
  • Ability to develop and implement a strategy across multiple people, geographies, processes, and tools
  • Experience working with external suppliers
  • Understanding of drug development process and GMP requirements
  • Ability to lead and influence across multiple levels of the organization
  • Previous Procurement experience strongly preferred
  • Previous direct negotiation experience and understanding of the commercial laws preferred
  • Previous experience in managing third party relationships
  • Experience in working in a regulated environment
  • Demonstrated high learning agility with ability to adopt to changing environments and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, negotiation, motivational, project management, critical thinking skills, and teamwork (team member and project leader role)

  • Ability to constructively and professionally handle conflict, push back and maintain position with internal business partners and/or external suppliers
