Senior Systems Administrator (San Jose, CA)

 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Work as a member of the IT Infrastructure team to provide operational and technical support services to a nationwide network and user base. Provide operational support services across a range of technologies.  Expertise in Systems Administration (Windows/Linux), Active Directory, Storage and Virtualization are core to this role. In addition to operational and support duties this individual will evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies and serve as tier 3 escalation support.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

·         Implementation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, security and usage monitoring of Windows, ESXi and Linux servers, Active Directory, Exchange, Citrix, IIS and MS SQL.

·         Perform basic systems security administration functions including managing file and server access rights

·         Monitor and manage system resources, including CPU, disk and ram usage

·         Perform systems backup and recovery procedures

·         Maintain system documentation and logs

  • Perform server administration across a mixed OS environment. The majority of the server base is Windows OS but also includes Linux, and ESXi servers.
  • Administration and maintenance for the messaging environment (Exchange 2010). Assist with managing user access to network resources (file shares, network printers, etc.)
  • Proactively manage the environment and initiate required corrective actions when potential or present issues identified
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on Windows servers; build new servers/environments
  • Address 3rd level customer support issues escalated from Help Desk and Junior administrators; troubleshoot difficult cases, document resolution and share findings with the group
  • Follow internal procedures for change management, incident management, escalation, etc.
  • Other responsibilities and key result areas will be assigned as required

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

·         5 to 7 years minimum experience in Systems Administration, Networking, and PC Support roles

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008 R2, Microsoft Exchange 2010, Microsoft Active Directory, Vmware ESX(i) and VCenter
  • Working knowledge of Storage Area Networks
  • Working knowledge of implementing and supporting IIS, SharePoint, SQL Server, Citrix XenApp, Server hardware (RAID, clustering, virtualization, etc.), TCP/IP protocol, DHCP, DNS, etc.
  • Knowledge of Oracle/Red Hat Linux is a plus
  • Understands and applies procedures and policies related to areas of specialized expertise.
  • Highly customer service oriented - Comfortable working with end-users in person and over the phone
  • Ability to multi-task a variety of duties and work requests
  • Superior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

·        MCSE considered a plus.
