Our client is hiring a Bridge Engineer for their Transportation Business Unit, Structures Market Sector. The primary duties of the candidate selected for this position will be support of bridge safety inspection and engineering operations for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation projects in Harrisburg, PA and also support of operations in Pittsburgh, PA and Philadelphia, PA.

Provide senior level technical expertise on Bridge Safety Inspections, Bridge Load Ratings, and Bridge Load Posting Evaluations.

 

Develop Bridge Safety Inspection data queries from PennDOT’s Bridge Management System.

 

Develop reports for PennDOT management on Bridge Safety Inspections, Load Ratings, and Load Posting Evaluations.

 

Coordinate Bridge Safety Inspection efforts with external agencies (i.e. PUC, PA Turnpike, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Department of General Services, Local Bridge Owners, Railroads, etc.)

 

Review work of others and act as advisor to PennDOT Management on Bridge Safety Inspections, Load Ratings. and Load Posting Evaluations.

 

Provide quality assurance oversight of work products.

 

Participate in local industry organizations such as ASHE, ABCD, and ASCE is preferred.

 

Represent firm at client meetings.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Pennsylvania
  • (5) five or more years of bridge inspection experience in Pennsylvania
  • Certified PA Bridge Safety Inspection Team Leader or equivalent as per NBIS qualifications
  • Proficient in bridge load ratings using accepted PennDOT software tools
  • Proficient with PennDOT Bridge Management System
  • Proficient with all Federal, FHWA, AASHTO, and PennDOT bridge inspections specifications and coding manuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess the ability to effectively work with teams and mentor/develop engineering staff
  • Available to travel and participate in project development processes.
