New York Military Academy Executive Director of Fundraising and Development
The Executive Director of Fundraising and Developmentis responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors, including individuals, corporations and foundations, for all forms of philanthropic contributions. The qualified individual must be able to carry out a comprehensive local and national fundraising plan that includes giving from individuals, corporations, and foundations, as well as organizing special events. The Executive Director represents The New York Military Academy in campus activities, community events and organizations that further the development of major gift donors. Under the direction of the President of the Board of trustees, the Executive Director collaborates with senior staff, faculty, alumni and volunteers to develop and implement initiatives and strategies for successful major gift solicitation. A successful candidate will use organizational tools to manage donor strategies, have a thorough understanding of budgets and financial statements, as well as conduct all fundraising with highest standards of integrity and ethics. The Executive Director creates and implements, with the President and Board’s oversight, the design of all short and long-term fundraising strategies and increases the Academy’s philanthropic revenue through major gifts, sponsorships and planned gifts. The Executive Director creates a Strategic Fundraising Plan for the assigned division of Campaigns, and serves as the staff advisor for the Campaign’s Divisional Volunteer Fundraising Committee, overseeing assigned operating budget. The Executive Director is responsible for the identification of foundations, writing of grant applications, and the administration of successful proposals.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Master’s in related field preferred. Direct experience in higher education or not-for-profit fundraising development. Five years of demonstrated successful professional fundraising experience or a demonstrated comparably successful track record in a related career. Strong presentation, communication and networking skills. Knowledge of types of various types of philanthropic gifts. Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, and exceptional collaborative and team building skills. Experience and knowledge of PC software and some database management. Ability to travel up to 50% both locally and nationally, as well as attend evening and/or weekend activities, events and meetings. Experience in military organizations a plus but not required.
