Opto-Mechanical Technician Position Overview:
The primary objective of the Opto-Mechanical Technician is to assemble, test, troubleshoot and perform critical optical alignment and measurement processes on various opto-mechanical subassemblies, utilized within highly stabilized, electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) imaging systems. Opto-Mechanical Technicians shall complete this objective with a strong adherence to quality, cost and program delivery schedules. An ideal Opto-Mechanical Technician has a broad background in Optics, Electro-Mechanical, and Opto-Mechanical assembly. Experience with critical optical alignment processes is a must. Successful Opto-Mechancial Technicians have the ability to comprehend wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, assembly work instructions, test procedures, work orders and bill of materials (BOMs). The ability to efficiently troubleshoot technical issues down to component level is required. The availability to support overtime, via extended work shifts and weekends is also required.
Opto-Mechanical Technicians have the ability to successfully perform tasks both independently and in a team environment. Opto-Mechanical Technicians must be able to interact with all levels of the SEO Organization. This includes, but is not limited to, Operations Management, Mfg. Engineers, Design Engineers, Systems Engineers, Test Engineers, Test Technicians, Production Planners, Procurement Personnel, Stockroom Clerks and fellow Production Personnel. Strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal format is critical to the success of the Opto-Mechanical Technician role. Strong computer skills are also required as Opto-Mechanical Technician responsibilities include the input of optical measurement data and generation of various charts, graphs and written reports.
Department Organization:
This position is part of the Production department's Sub Assembly work center, reporting to the Subassembly Production Supervisor. There are 10 people currently reporting in the Sub Assembly work center and 20 people reporting into the Production department.
Performance Objectives:
- Within the first month of employment, learn and participate in the following Manufacturing Processes:
- NCMR Process
- ECR / ECO Process
- Work Instruction / Test Procedure Development
- MTO Work Order Management
- Within the first 6 months of employment, learn to assemble and test the following Opto-Mechanical Subassemblies:
- Optical subassemblies for M12 650 Systems
- Sphere assemblies for the M12 650, 400 Series, and MX12 Systems
- Perform critical opto-mechanical bonding procedures on various subassemblies
- Within the first 12 months of employment, become proficient in the following Opto-Mechanical Subassembly tasks:
- Assemble, test Co-boresight various opto-mechanical subassemblies (EOW, EON, DLTV, IR Lens, IR Cameras, etc.)
- Conduct optical alignment procedures (par center and backfocus) using Interferometers and Collimators
- Perform Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) measurements, capture and process data, and generate reports
ADA Requirements:
- This person must be creative, open-minded, a strong communicator, and a good listener. Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical internal customers. Must be able to work in fast paced, schedule driven environment, without sacrificing product quality.
- Able to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects. Acute attention to detail, excellent organizational skills. Ability to logically address, analyze, and resolve problems.
- Able to work with general manufacturing hand tools, computers and troubleshooting tools such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power supplies for mechanical assembly, metalworking machines, precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Lift 35-50 lbs.
- A considerable amount of time will be spent standing, bending over, and kneeling, while building a variety of assemblies.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years exp as a tech in a Mfg or Eng environment in at least one of the following fields: Electronic, Electro-Mech, Optical or Opto-Mech.
- Must be proficient w/use of alignment telescopes. Exp w/electronic & mech test equip is required.
- Must have the ability to troubleshoot electronics & mech system faults to the component level & the ability to work with Quality and Mfg Eng to take corrective action.
- Exp with Word and Excel to prepare documentation & reports is required.
- Knowledge of ESD prevention, precautions, lab safety & procedures preferred.
- High School Diploma required, A.A.S. Degree and/or Technician Certificate preferred.
- This position may require a security clearance; applicants must meet eligibility requirements to obtain access to classified information.
- Must be a US Citizen or Perm. Resident (Green Card Holder) to be considered for employment with L-3 SEO.
