About the Job

Serves as part of assigned team of responders available for immediate dispatch to the area requiring assistance. Provides medical and clinical expertise to ensure safety and security of staff and residents.  Serves in a clinical capacity to better provide quality patient care to adolescent and adult residents as license allows.  Acts as backup to Administrative Officer when needed. These full time positions will cover evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
Must be EMS basic certified and must become certified trainers of CPR, First Aid, and Mandt within six months of accepting position. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. EMT preferred. See job description (below):

Position Purpose:


Serves as part of assigned team of responders available for immediate dispatch to the area requiring assistance.  Provides medical and clinical expertise to ensure safety and security of staff and residents.  Serves in a clinical capacity to better provide quality patient care to adolescent and adult residents as license allows.  Acts as backup to Administrative Officer when needed.  Shifts are mainly evenings and weekends.


Key Responsibilities:


1.                   Functions at the  according to New Hampshire Department of Public Health – EMS section demonstrating the ability to provide and assure the carrying out of procedures and protocols and assuring the maintenance of a safe environment.

2.                   Provides emergency and non-emergency care, demonstrating the ability to assess patient and situation needs and problems responding appropriately.

3.                   Provides clinical and medical expertise as part of the Emergency Responder Team responding to any and all potential crisis.

4.                   Assists in all departments as needed and/or assigned.

5.                   Is ready to respond immediately to calls when on duty.  Maintains own skills, remaining current in knowledge of equipment, protocols and trends.

6.                   Demonstrates thorough concise and timely documentation and verbal communication of activities.

7.                   Self-motivated and able to make decisions independently keeping manager and appropriate others informed and supporting the facility’s philosophy and decisions.

8.                   Communicates with others (verbally and in writing) in an appropriate and timely manner demonstrating tact, sensitivity, and ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

9.                   Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, i.e., customer service, safety, compliance standards and all others.

10.               Responds to all codes in house while on duty.

11.               Performs other related duties as assigned.





1.       Skill, Knowledge and Abilities:  Knowledge and experience in staff scheduling computer modules, skilled in facilitation of staff scheduling and continuity of care.  Basic knowledge of brain injury and other neurological disorders and the requirements to care for the same. Excellent knowledge of behavioral management interventions.  Able to communicate effectively, organize daily work efficiently and independently problem solve.


2.       Education:   High School diploma or equivalent


3.       Licensure:   EMT-B; CPR certification; Valid and current Drivers License; Trainers in CPR/First Aid and MANDT required within 6 months of employment.


4.       Experience:  Preferred: 1- 3 years EMS experience preferred.


5.       Physical Requirements:

Requires climbing stairs 10-25% of the time and in an emergency to get to and from the units.

Ability to retrieve items from the floor. Ability to bend to floor to assist program participant, staff or visitor in an emergency.

Must be able to sit a maximum of 50% of the time for meetings, report writing, chart review and telephone use.  May require standing up to 90% of the shift..

Requires ability to communicate verbally with program participants, staff, visitors, and consultants and surveyors.

Required ability to distinguish colors in an emergency.

Ability to obtain and maintain MANDT certification.

Physical and psychological health necessary to perform all essential job functions.


6.          Visual Requirements:  Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.


7.          Mental Requirements:  Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distraction such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinion.


8.          Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with o less than 40 db loss @Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sounds

9.          Exposure Categories: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.


10.      Other potential hazard (s): Verbally and physically aggressive program participants.
