Investments Solutions Consultant - Software Developer - Charles River Development

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The GBS Investments Solutions Consultant possessing strong business acumen (process & data/information) coupled with strong system application knowledge  performs with minimal direction a variety of roles in the creation and maintenance of large enterprise wide/global complex solutions (including data infrastructure, reporting, automation and applications) that address the informational and analytical needs of the Investment Management, Investment Research, Global Trading, or Global Investment and Institutional Client Services (GICS) divisions. These roles stem from all phases of the project lifecycle and include research, requirements gathering, solution design, solution recommendation, application development, and system testing. The Solutions Consultant acts as a consultant and partner with the Investment Business Community, Global Investment and Institutional Client Services (GICS), and Global Business Solutions and Technology (GBS&T) project teams to ensure that all business requirements are understood, documented, and executed upon.
 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Works closely with Investment Staff and/or Global Investment and Institutional Client Services (GICS) managers to expose informational, analytical, or workflow-optimizing needs. Regularly and independently interacts with business partners of varying associate/management levels to ensure clarity of the problem/opportunity and elicit business requirements. Estimates the size of the effort required to complete complex enterprise wide/global scale projects.
 
Designs, prototypes, implements, and maintains products that address business needs and achieve enterprise wide/global strategic goals. This may include analyzing, researching, processing and administering investment data; analyzing, developing and deploying reports; and analyzing, designing, creating, and testing software applications.
 
Provides consultancy and advice on functionality, applicability and usability of solutions (process and/or technology) to project requirements.  Recognizes and manages business trade-offs and market pressures.  Works with business partners to assess related business process changes and impact to users/clients.  Guides business partners to ensure communication and organizational preparedness activities occur to address changes as a result of process and/or system changes.  Identifies opportunities to improve current processes and act as a champion to change within the business analysis practice. 
 
Builds and sustains trusted partnerships and relationships across business and technical functions and external organizations.  Interacts with all management and associate levels to understand problems and opportunities as well as to communicate ideas, strategies and solutions.  Represents the sponsor in further phases of projects identified in conceptualization.  Facilitates communications between GBS&T and the business.  Works closely with portfolio managers, quantitative analyst, investment analyst, traders, and/or investment operations managers to develop solutions to be used by the investment associates. Utilizes strong knowledge of both Investments and data to influence the business. Defines the solution scope and develops the business case to justify the investment necessary to deliver a proposed solution.  Incorporates understanding of the business architecture of the organization being analyzed including the organizational structure and relationships that exist between business units to provide guidance on project approach, potential solutions to various project, and problems and opportunities.  Stays abreast of business strategy and needs and technology leveraged by the business channels they support and leverage that information in support of the business.  Proactively monitors industry trends (both financial and software). 
 
Reviews requirements for multiple projects, ensures that documentation is consistent and falls within the standards of the solution delivery methodology.  Mentors associates on software development methodologies best practices, business analysis tools, industry knowledge.  Evaluates trends and metrics from production support/application management to help guide the business on future projects and initiatives.  Evaluates post deployment issues and success to apply best practices to future initiatives. 
 
Assists in the support of systems, including taking responsibility for the resolution of large enterprise wide/global complex business and/or technical on-call issues, monitoring the system, and communicating with the vendors regarding problems, to ensure the system is functioning. Investigates, diagnoses, isolates, and de-bugs issues and performs problem resolution.  Documents resolution appropriately.  Escalates issue to Solutions Consultants, Sr. Solutions Consultants, Project Leads, or Project Managers if a solution cannot be determined.
 
Continuously seeks to expand knowledge of Investments practice and theory to create efficiencies and/or mitigate risk via people/process/technology changes for the business.
 
Mentors and coaches less experienced Solutions Analysts/ Sr Solutions Analysts, and less experienced associates across the firm.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred
  • Prior experience and in-depth knowledge of Charles River Development (CRD) systems, processes and environment.

  • Knowledge of Investments & Trading workflows and processes

  • Experience with project management and control preferred

  • Knowledge of relational databases and concepts preferred

  • Strong understanding of basic Investment Management principles preferred
Required
  • College degree and 4 years of related work experience, or Associate degree and 6 years related work experience, or High School diploma/equivalent and 8 years related work experience.

  • Experience in an analytical position involving data management and collection, modeling, and interpretation across complex data sets.

  • Demonstrated advanced analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.

  • Prior experience and in-depth knowledge of Charles River Development (CRD) systems, processes and environment.

  • Knowledge of Investments & Trading workflows and processes a strong plus

  • Possesses high level of Investment Operations, Trading, or Investment Management business, product, and/or system knowledge

  • Knowledge of when and how to use business assessment and prior experience executing project discovery and investigation, including development of a Cost-Benefit Analysis for a project of moderate size

  • In depth understanding of how the people, processes and technology within an organization interact in relationships and patterns to create a feasible solution on highly complex projects

  • Experience in advanced strategic business visioning and planning skills for Investment Operations (such as Global Trade Support, Collateral Management, or Accounting), Trading, or Investment Management. 

  • Ability to develop alternative solutions to complex business problems, providing thorough recommendations of the best solution to business partners and the project team.

  • Demonstrated successful mastery of all components of the Systems Lifecycle Development methodology in the context of major systems implementations and especially on projects and initiatives of high complexity

  • Extensive experience working on multiple applications/projects supporting one business channel or extensive experience supporting technology-related initiatives for multiple TRP Business Channels.

  • Ability to effectively capture, document, and analyze detailed business requirements regarding both process and system working closely with business partners at varying levels. 

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently translate business process and system requirements into technical specifications and collaborate with development team during technical build and testing efforts. 

  • Demonstrated mastery of testing concepts and skilled in formulating test strategies, managing, and executing system testing initiatives. 

  • Ability to use effective facilitation skills and techniques to effectively negotiate with and influence clients at various levels in the organization.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Adaptable and able to learn quickly.

  • Ability to master complex tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Able to manage change and cope with complex and ambiguous situations.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated experience providing estimation for moderate to complex efforts.

  • Experience in practical application development and/or client solution delivery.
