About the Job








SUMMARY:



This position reports to the Division Executive Director and is focused on growing the business, in support of corporate goals, through the development of a Product Portfolio Strategy and Roadmap for the leadership and management domain.  The Product Portfolio Strategy and Roadmap is validated through strategic customer inputs and market research in the learning & development industry.  As a conduit between the market, customers, and product development, this position has involvement in and input into strategic planning and execution to define the product portfolio, including new product development and product enhancements.  Performance will be measured by the following metrics: revenue growth, product performance (time to market, time to break even), product contribution margin, client stories, and opportunity deal size.



 



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:



  • Conduct market research and track industry trends in the market to:

    • Ensure the Leadership & Management Product Portfolio evolves to meet changing customer needs for product content, type, and delivery modes

    • Assess current product offerings and identify gaps between individual market segments needs and current products

    • Ensure products meet necessary external standards to maximize appeal to individual market segments (e.g., industry bodies of knowledge as applicable to each product)

    • Develop new product concepts to build sales within current market segments and capture new market segments

    • Conduct annual and as-needed competitive analysis, inclusive of product offerings, bundling, certifications, and pricing

    • Brief management as required on material changes in positioning, competitive marketing, product direction and, pricing, and make recommendations on modifications to strategic plans

    • Identify opportunities for Business Development Representative follow up


  • Lead Leadership & Management Product Portfolio Strategy discussions to identify:

    • New market possibilities for a target market

    • Potential new products to serve existing markets

    • Opportunities for innovation, e.g. leveraging content management system capabilities to repackage existing content in new delivery modes or for new or existing customers

    • Opportunities to collaborate with other training divisions, assessments, mc press, or learning technologies to address the full spectrum of client needs


 



  • Manage the Leadership & Management Product Roadmap, including:

    • Working with the Executive Director to set the long-term strategic vision for the product portfolio

    • Working with the Executive Director and Product Development Director to set product development priorities, schedules, and delivery dates

    • Working closely with the Product Development Director, Business Operations and Resource Manager to bring products from planning to launch and maintain product quality and applicability to audience over time

    • Collaborating with the Product Development Director to set and monitor development and maintenance schedules, including adjustments needed to take advantage of opportunities outside the long-term plan

    • Performing market research and business case development for new products

    • Facilitate the planning and execution of product testing and quality measures before release

    • Working with the Corporate Marketing staff to develop marketing plans for the overall product portfolio, special campaign plans, individual product promotions, and selected product groups (e.g., certificate programs)

    • Monitoring product performance and determining future plans for each product, e.g. enhance / improve, drop from portfolio, change marketing strategy, etc.


  • Supervision of Product Management Staff

    • Assigns work to product management team members

    • Monitors performance and conducts performance appraisals

    • Interviews and makes staff recommendations for hire

    • Conducts on-boarding and training of new staff

    • Supports continued professional development of staff


  • Support Sales by:

    • Developing and delivering product portfolio sales tools in partnership with marketing to improve the effectiveness of the sales team

    • Providing prospect and client briefings on product portfolio

    • Conducting thought leadership campaigns. Including speaking engagements, in alignment with strategic and product specific goals

    • Ensuring the Content Management System contains current marketing support documentation (Description, Objectives, Topics, Curriculum Relationships, Intended Audience, etc)

    • Opportunity Management
      • Serving as the technical expert in making bid/no bid recommendations to the Executive Director

      • Acting as a technical solutions architect or technical lead role for major proposal efforts


    • Maintaining the technical proposal content in Privia, with support from the Product Development Director



 



NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • In-depth subject matter expertise in leadership & management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and execution of a product portfolio strategy

  • Secure and manage focused meetings with customers to collect organization needs and map to product plan

  • Support sales in customer relationship development (meeting planning, strategy, participation) emphasizing company strengths and technical solutions.

  • Perform effective market research and networking to determine areas for potential new products

  • Collect competitive intelligence and develop a strategy to neutralize competitor strengths

  • Build effective, engaged teams and demonstrate strong supervisory skills

  • Effective project and proposal management skills

  • Excellent writing and verbal skills


 



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • Masters degree required.

  • 10 or more years’ experience in related duties

  • Thorough understanding of leadership & management domain area and markets

  • Training or workforce development experience a plus

  • Familiarity with federal government and commercial market required
