About the Job

Meyer Decorative Surfaces, a unit of Saint-Gobain, is a distributor of interior building products which are sold throughout the Southeast region of the U.S. The company operates 15 branches in this region and sells interior building products to cabinet makers, craftsmen and contractors in their respective territories. Primary products include wood and wood supplies, cabinets and hardware and other interior accessories. This position will be working out of our Roanoke, VA branch and involves warehouse work, local deliveries & no overnight travel.

Position description

This position reports to the Warehouse Manager or Branch Operations Manager and is responsible for loading, delivering and unloading products to a customer’s work site or other locations. The incumbent will also perform Warehouse Person duties as required when not delivering material to a customer. The Branch Delivery Driver requires a CDL B license, a clean driving record, and customer service skills since he/she represents MDS at our customer’s job locations.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Inspect truck daily, before beginning deliveries, to assure that the truck is in safe operating condition.
  • Load and secure products on the truck in a manner that assures no damage to material in transit.
  • Ensure that material loaded matches shipping documents and those products are in good condition.
  • Deliver material to customer’s workshops, work sites, warehouses, or other locations. Unload material at delivery site and secure as appropriate.
  • Assist in all operations of the warehouse when not delivering material to customers.
  • Operate the truck in compliance with all state and federal safety and administrative requirements, including maintaining the proper level of CDL, driver’s log, and observing all traffic laws and load limits.
  • Work safely, attend safety meetings and follow all safety procedures and policies.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements (Education & Experience):
  • Oral communication, employee relations, customer service skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English and be able to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Commercial driver’s license (CDL B or A).
  • Minimm 1 year’s experience driving a 24 or 26-foot box type delivery truck or a larger truck and working in a warehouse environment.
  • Able to pass a USDOT medical examination and drug screen.
  • Able to present evidence of a good driving record, which is free of recent infractions and accidents.
  • Able to successfully pass a Valid OSHA approved forklift certification (company training provided). Depending on location must be able to drive forklift or side loader. Must be able to operate a pallet jack and a walk behind forklift.

Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift extremely heavy/awkward products repeatedly tostore, removes them from storage, or load onto a truck.
  • Able to maintain a high level of frequency and intensity in other physical activities such as reaching, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  • Visual acuity, depth perception, color vision, and peripheral vision. Required to work both inside and outside in extremes of cold, heat and humidity.
  • The incumbent will be exposed to modest amounts of dust, fumes, noise and vibrations.
