Mechanical Engineer

About the Job

Automedx, a Gaithersburg, Maryland based medical device company, is looking for a strong Mechanical Engineer that works well in an entrepreneurial environment.  We are a small firm working on a number of cutting edge ventilators.  The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in the design and development of pneumatic devices.  The successful candidate will be tasked with management of mechanical design efforts on multiple product lines, from concept generation to manufacturing. 

 

Job requirements:

·         BS degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering or similar.

·         Excellent written, oral communication and time management skills required

·         Relevant work experience of at least 3 years 

·         3-D design/modeling capability (Solidworks preferred)

·         Experience evaluating and modifying existing mechanical drawings

·         Experience working with valves

·         Experience with fluid dynamics pertaining to pumps/blowers, valve mechanisms, and the control and measurement of both flow and pressure

·         Experience designing products for manufacture and testing

·         History of timely, successful, and relevant designs that can be discussed in detail

 

Specific skills that would be useful but are not essential:

·         Experience designing portable devices or enclosures where space is limited

·         Previous design experience under FDA and/or ISO guidelines

·         Industrial Design

·         Mechanical vibration analysis and mitigation techniques

·         Acoustic noise analysis and mitigation techniques

·         Familiarity with injection molding processes, design, and materials

·         3-d Printers

·         Materials background – Plastics & Foams

·         MEMS Sensors

·         Electrical background

 

A successful candidate will encompass the following team skills:

·         Comfortable with various stages of the development cycle (design, implementation, and testing)

·         Experience in formulating and communicating project plans 

·         Analytical/critical thinking and problem solving skills

·         Ability to work independently, as well as with a team

·         Self-motivated, hardworking, flexible
