Reporting to the site Director the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for leading and directing engineering and technology activities in alignment with site and TE objectives for Oceanside andTecate, Mexico.
Ensures scientific and technologically based continuous improvement for the business unit and provides overall leadership to the engineering group, setting operational strategies, establishing business focused goals and objectives, and continued talent development of the engineering team. Position involves a high degree of interface with Operations, Industrial Engineering, Development Engineering and Quality Control. This includes communication to senior management of plans, projects, and capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize the work load for the department based on the operation's overall goals.
  • Provide leadership and act as a change agent to support the implementation of lean to attain world class status in manufacturing operations.
  • Provide the support and leadership required to develop a strong and capable engineering team.
  • Investigate manufacturing engineering problems to determine root cause of manufacturing defects or failures and implement permanent solutions. Make recommendations to correct and resolve problems by suggesting design changes, process or equipment changes, and tooling modifications
  • Ensure process and router compliances are met.
  • Manage capital equipment projects, specify and implement new manufacturing equipment
  • Work with Prod Development Team to successfully scale up new products for manufacturing
  • Establish and track cost reduction activities.
  • Identify, manage and champion appropriate 6 sigma projects.
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years engineering management experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Acces) and CAD required. SAP knowledge a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial and operational performance data required.
  • Ability to present technical and financial information to executive level staff required.
  • Experience in the use of six-sigma tool and the implementation of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in leading a manufacturing operation through a successful lean transformation with demonstrated result in improved performance in all aspects of operatons.
  • Ability to seamlessly work across a broad range of functions including sales, marketing, engineering, product development and senior management.
  • Solid influencing skills, particularly where there is no reporting relationship.
  • Energetic with the ability to inspire a sense of urgency in others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and promote subordinates.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining a disciplined manufacturing operation with a focus on delivering consistent results with a respect for the individual employee.
