Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist will perform delegated tasks as authorized by Florida Statutes chapter 465.014 to facilitate the accurate and timely filling of prescriptions and medication orders.
Responsible for answering the pharmacy telephone, attending to the pharmacy pick up window and making the initial offer to counsel, recording medication pick up tracking to the disposition log, filing prescriptions and ADS reports, ordering supplies, receiving inventory, picking up daily mail, and sending prescriptions requiring signatures to prescribers. Prepares packages for shipping via UPS. Retrieves prescriptions and orders, and processes information to the pharmacy mangement system. Understands pharmaceutical Sig codes and timely and accurately processes conditional entry of prescriptions and orders, new and refill, as well as admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) information. Proficient in document management and accurately exports prescriptions and associates them electronically properly to the patient and prescription number producing audit trails of all activity. Electronically files all prescriptions and orders to the document management system. Retrieves and prepares medications for pharmacist final review validating the drug name, drug NDC number on the label with the package to assure accurate dispensing. Records the activity to the logs identifying their completion of the task. Counts all quantities to be dispensed and double counts all controlled substances. Delivers inpatient medications to the nursing units and places them in the appropriate patient specific bin. Prepares sterile products and has received such additional training in aseptic technique to competently admix ingredients. Cleans and maintains the Mobile Isolation Chamber and other departmental equipment as required. Assists in assuring inventory levels are maintained adequately assessing reordering requirements at time of use. Places, receives and prices drug orders, completes and files all paperwork, reorders medications as needed. Records transfer of all controlled substances to the automated dispensing systems. Checks the shelves quarterly for out of date medication and removes from stock such outdated inventory. Reports short-dated items to the pharmacy technician supervisor. Assures accurate recording of controlled substances to the perpetual inventory records verifying the count each time the drugs are accessed and records in the appropriate section the required information to document each transaction of distribution.
Current CPHT certification or enrolled in a college of pharmacy. High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Good communication skills and computer use are required. Florida drivers license and reliable automobile transportation are required. Willingness to make deliveries when necessary required.
