The Product Development Scientist I or II will be responsible for product development for US Consumer Products Division (USCPD) including new products, line extensions, brand maintenance, assistance with operations, supply chain and cost optimization.




  • Formulating new or improved products to achieve objectives for consumer acceptance, product performance and manufacturing requirements from concept through commercialization
  • Managing projects to meet time and cost restraints
  • Employing strong understanding of consumer and general sensory testing, including its application toproduct development
  • Designing and managing experiments
  • Developing and applying knowledge of ingredients and flavors, their major vendors, and performance attributes (including flavor, functionality, and quality)
  • Evaluating raw materials and formulas for CCI and functionality
  • Conducting plant trials at co-pack and McCormick locations



RESPONSIBILITIES – Scientist II (inclusive of Scientist I)

  • Planning and conducting complex technical research assignments using comprehensive knowledge and experience in Product Development
  • Applying a high degree of initiative and creativity in assignments
  • Providing technical direction and/or supervising lower level employee (possibly)




  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Culinary or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of product development experience in food industry (co-op and internship experience will be considered)
  • Passion for food and flavor
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate cross functionally inside and outside the organization
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing business priorities
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects of varying levels of complexity
  • High degree of ownership and professional commitment
  • PC skills with Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Decision making and effective communication skills



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – Scientist II (inclusive of Scientist I)

  • Minimum 6 years of product development experience in the food industry
  • Ability to lead cross functionally, including, Commercialization, Sensory, Test Kitchen, QA, Purchasing, and Co-Pack




  • Experience in the development of dry seasonings
  • Experience with SAP, product formulary and retrieval systems
  • Curiosity and innovative thinking
  • Culinary interest and/or related training



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – Scientist II (inclusive of Scientist I)

  • Experience in developing for aseptic, hot fill and retort processes
  • Experience in the development and processing of liquid products such as marinades, sauces, salad dressings, stocks, broths, liquid soups and gravies
