Production Shift Supervisor

About the Job

1st Shift Production Supervisor



        Supervises and coordinates activities of associates engaged in operating a variety of plastic blow molding equipment to manufacture parts for Tier 1 automotive, as well as other customers

        Computes amount of stock and supplies required for operations based on production schedules and obtains through internal requisition procedures

        Interprets production schedules and assigns appropriately trained associates to each specific activity

        Interfaces with Purchasing, Scheduling, Quality and Shipping to ensure customer deadlines and requirements are met

        Ensures product is manufactured to predetermined quality and dimensional specifications

        Establishes or adjusts associate assignments to meet production schedules

        Directs process technicians in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products which fail to meet standards

        Develops, recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product through continual improvement activities via the systems in place at WEK

        Suggests changes to increase the efficiency of the department, reduce scrap, and improve labor utilization

        Works with Human Resource Manager and Production Manager to communicate and investigate personnel issues

        Maintains time and attendance records electronically

        Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company handbook

        Member of WEK Safety Committee, attends monthly meetings and participates in solutions for safety issues




Minimum Qualification Requirements

        Safety and Security - Observes all safety and security procedures, Wears all Personal Protective Equipment as required, Reports potentially unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel immediately, and uses equipment and materials properly

        Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, setting the example for his or her employees, feeds back information to improve performance and product quality, ensures all associates are manufacturing products to approved work instructions

        Quantity - Meets efficiency, scrap, and utilization standards, strives to increase productivity, encourages employees to do the same

        Attendance / Punctuality - is consistently at work and arrives on time consistently

        Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction, Takes responsibility for his or her own actions, Available for overtime as needed

        Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, 

        Math Skills - Ability to add and subtract correctly

        Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions

        Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - None required

        Physical Demands - Required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, bend, etc. as needed to perform the duties of this job, Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and be able to push greater weights

        Work Environment - Exposed to moving parts that are shielded, exposed to hot environment, and is exposed to noise levels that require hearing protection in designated areas of this facility

        Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner, reacts well under pressure, treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position, accepts responsibility for his or her own actions, follows through on commitments

        EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment / Minimum of 2 years experience with technical background in hydraulic or mechanical equipment

        EDUCATION:  Minimum of 2 year associate degree or technical degree from accredited college, university or technical school

        SKILLS:  Communication - Ability to write reports and use e-mail / Computer - Ability to use Microsoft Office / Able to use electronic attendance program
