Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Systems Engineer to assist the Project Manager in supporting Science and Technology (S&T) projects dealing with the development and integration of Radio Frequency (RF) systems for Electronic Warfare applications.

Job Summary: Perform engineering tasks on an S&T effort to integrate multiple Electronic Warfare (EW) systems into a single package that can be deployed on both manned and unmanned platforms


1)   Support the project manager’s planning and documentation efforts. Examples of these efforts include, but are not limited to: helping development of project plans, reviewing technical and programmatic reports, moderating planning meetings, assisting with requirements and concept of operations (CONOPS) development as it relates to the program objectives, assistance with coordinating modeling and simulation (M&S) efforts to support system development and evaluation, facilitating demonstration readiness reviews and writing and presenting project status and progress reports. (40%)


2)  Assist with the coordination between APL engineering staff, program management, external government and civilian collaborators and Government sponsors. This includes coordinating technical exchange meetings with subject matter experts in the areas of radar, RF communications, EW and M&S. (30%)

3)  Work with the Program Manager (PM), Project manager (PjM) and the technical leads to develop and document the program roadmaps. Support the project manager with coordinating resources; this includes working issues regarding staff that support multiple projects. (20%)

4)  Collaborate with technical staff to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems while ensuring that these approaches remain within the scope of the program’s statement of work. (10%)

Required Qualifications:  BS in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics, or other related discipline with 4 to 8 years of relevant experience working with RF, analog and/or digital electronics systems.  Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.

Desired Qualifications:  MS or higher degree in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics with 5-15 years of relevant experience.  Proven history of successful and critical contributions to DoD or DHS customers on projects related to development and evaluation of analog, digital and RF systems.  Experience leading small teams.  Experience with using M&S to support development and evaluation of complex systems.

Special Working Conditions:  Some travel may be required to support business meetings and technical demonstrations.

Security:  Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for a NAC/LAC (National Agency Check/Local Agency Check) and access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
