Health and Safety Leader, Upstate New York - Chemical Mfg

Our client, a leading chemical manufacturer with  demonstrated long-term business success in multiple product lines and industries is seeking a Safety Manager for their flagship plant in an attractive family oriented Northeast US location.  This is an oustanding opportunity to join a leader in specialy chemical manufacturing with a track record of success and business growth.  

This position requires a solid safety management background with an interestin continuous process safety management and a desire for increased levels of responsibility.  This position offers may also offer an opportunity for career advancement within the plant and company overseeing all of EHS.Under leadership of the Site Manager and with  support from corporate EHS management, you will direct the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive health and safety syste to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations while driving continuous improvement in the site safety culture and performance.

Minimum qualifications include:


Bachelors Degree in technical, occupational safety or related field.
7+ years  experience in a Safety Leadership role - Demonstrated accomplishments in strategic management required

Chemical Manufacturing or directly related experience

PSM experience and working knowledge of PSM

Supervisory experience

Supervising a staff of EHS specialists, responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring site compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Standards 29 CFR 1910 & 1926.
  • Developing  and implementing health, safety, and security management systems and procedures as needed to ensure regulatory and corporate compliance.
  • Completing documentation and paperwork while ensuring timely submission of periodic reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Support, review, and modify site emergency programs and procedures as necessary
  • Act as primary contact with regulatory authorities in all health, safety and security matters
  • Oversee and participate in site IH initiatives
  • Lead the contractor management and compliance program for the site
  • Serve as site coordinator for all Process Safety and Risk Management activities. Participate in audits, Process Hazard Analysis and other activities as required.

Working with Operations and EH&S Management:

  • Continuously develop, review, and revise site safety plans and procedures as needed.
  • Analyze data to identify hazards and risks at the site, and ensure actions are taken to mitigate or eliminate
  • Assist and/or lead incident investigations and participate in management reviews of all significant incidents
  • Lead, co-ordinate, and participate in all health and, safety performance improvement initiatives
  • Lead the development of site and security standards, and participate on corporate teams to develop as needed
  • Participate in budgetary development processes by identifying and managing costs associated with defined elements of safety and security related spending
