Senior HVAC Engineer
Jacobs provides research and facility operations, maintenance, engineering, and information technology (IT) services for NASA LaRC in Hampton, VA. Our services on the contract include design engineering, design/build project management, construction management, tactical engineering, facility operation and maintenance, configuration management, document control, facility IT integration and support, and information systems management. We also support NASA space programs with atmospheric research and technology testing and development. Jacobs plays a role in fulfilling the new space exploration program's vision by participating in the evaluation of the Orion crew module conceptual designs by providing design and construction of the Hydro Impact Basin which will simulate water landing loads on any future capsule and by the testing of prototypes in LaRC's wind tunnels. We also help LaRC lead NASA's initiatives in aviation safety, quiet aircraft technology, small aircraft transportation, and aerospace vehicles system technology. Development and monitoring of project specific execution plans to reconcile Scope, Budget, and Schedule constraints and ensure project success
Independent preparation (and directs others) of criteria, computation/analyses, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports for HVAC and Plumbing system designs. Selects and applies engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity.
Oversight of the activities of engineers, designers, and drafters engaged in the design of facility mechanical systems (HVAC and Plumbing), to ensure the designs conform to recognized codes and standards and with customer requirements for a variety of government and industrial facility types.
Provide technical quality reviews and ensure adherence to Quality Control processes, Codes and Standards, ultimately resulting in the Highest Quality deliverables to NASA Langley.
Participate in local or national professional organizations to promote visibility and growth of the department (i.e., ASHRAE, ASPE etc.).
Providing positive leadership, integrity, and teambuilding which will encourage employee engagement and maintain a high morale.
Professional Engineer license is required.
Minimum 8 years of Mechanical (HVAC and Plumbing) design experience is required.
Design experience needs to include HVAC and Plumbing design for commercial, healthcare, institutional, and Federal and Municipal facility projects is required. Fire Suppression System design is desirable.
Experience with Sustainable Design and High Performance Building concepts.
Experience with building information modeling (BIM) software and BIM project execution a plus.
