Junior Network Engineer/Network Administrator

Duties and Responsibilities:
Summary of Duties:
Assignments involve the planning, analysis, design, development, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance and management of networked systems used for transmission of information in voice, data and video. The incumbent must demonstrate the skill to analyze and define network requirements; define and maintain network architecture and infrastructure; configure and optimize network servers, hubs, routers, switches, FW and VPN; analyze and monitor network workload, capacity and performance; diagnose and resolve network problems; develop network backup and recovery procedures; install, test, maintain and upgrade network HW and SW.
Supports, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and coordinates the usage of local and wide area networks (LAN and WAN), telecommunications, VoIP; VPN, evaluates hardware and software, including peripheral, output, and telecommunications equipment. Troubleshoots problems; recommends and implements LAN policies and procedures and ensures adherence to security procedures.
Study, monitor and plan for integration of emerging technologies to include emerging automation, communication, and technological trends and recommending integration of new capabilities into existing DOE Golden Field Office and office automation systems.
Support Cisco switches, using the Cisco IOS software to provide Multi-Level Security backbone support to the DOE Golden Field Office network.
Support the management of Cisco routers and switches, Cisco VoIP network components for network connectivity and communication.
Must be familiar with Windows based workstations and servers.
Provide support for exercise and contingency operations to ensure connectivity between the DOE Golden Field Office and DOE Headquarters and remote field offices and users.
Install additional communication hardware and implement enhancements for new systems.
Generate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and as-built drawings.
Work with senior network administrators to:
Provide technical network management necessary to ensure continuous operation of systems with an operational uptime rate of 99%.
Research new technologies.
Resolve highly complex network interoperability problems.
Monitor Network activity using SolarWinds Orion to identify and alert network problems and advise management.
Must be a US Citizen
BS in Information Technology or related field or equivalent work experience
Up to 3 years hands on working experience with Cisco IOS software, routers, switches and VoIP systems is preferred.
Cisco Certification is preferred.
SolarWinds Orion experience preferred.
