General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems (GDAIS) has an immediate opening for a Senior Database Engineer to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDAIS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to build and further advance GDAIS software systems and applications. Key Responsibilities
Senior Database Engineer is expected to act both as a database and application engineer as well as a database administrator for a large, operational, Oracle database.


Database engineering responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and implement database applications to accommodate a variety of user needs.
  • Analyze and determine informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements and data output and reporting capabilities.
  • Define logical attributes and inter-relationships and designs data structures to accommodate database production, storage, maintenance, and accessibility.


Database administration responsibilities include:

  • Managing storage resources including but limited to age-off handling
  • Planning and coordinating upgrades and patches
  • Testing and planning releases and recovery including use of development, integration, production, and missoin assurance versions of the database
  • Optimizing queries and schema to improve user response time

Additional Responsibilities

  • Keep the project director and task lead aware of issues
  • Work with developers and system admins to maintain high system availability

Typically requires bachelor's degree in a specialized area or field or the equivalent, and a minimum of ten years of experience in related field; or master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of related experience.


Customer prefers the following qualifications: A minimum of 12 years of professional experience and a Bachelors’ degree or 10 years and a Master’s degree.

  • Be  able to perform or lead tasks of significant responsibility with minimal guidance from management


Candidate  must have the following technical skills and experience:

  • At least fifteen years of professional work experience in data modeling, database design, database development, SQL programming, and database performance tuning.
  • At least 10 years of professional work experience using Oracle or Sybase.
  • At least 5 years experience with Oracle RAC in a multi-node configuration
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience in database administration.
  • At least 7 years of professional work experience in JAVA or C programming.

A Department of Defense TOP SECRET/SCI  security clearance with a polygraph is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
