Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer shall have the overall responsibility to lead the development of firmware and software for Net Safety products introduced into production.  As Net Safety is an ISO 9000 company, and has determined that future products will be SIL-2 (Safety, Integrity Level 2) compliant, our software designs must be validated to be SIL-2 compliant.  The Senior Software Engineer will maintain the relevant processes with guidance from the Director of Product Development. The Senior Software Engineer is also responsible for determining the architecture and implementation of PC and network-centric applications, such as online firmware updates. 

Major Responsibilities:
  • Develop firmware and software for Net Safety products
  • Continue to the architectural evolution of Net Safety products by introducing industry best practices in software development.
  • Develop a software development plan for each new product development undertaken by Net Safety.
  • Provide guidance and leadership for firmware designs undertaken by the Net Safety Engineering team.
  • Ensure that our software designs are compliant with Net Safety’s Product Development Process and with the commitments made by Net Safety to SIL-certifying agencies to maintain certification control over our software and firmware releases.
  • Maintain the following software development processes, with guidance from the Director of Product Development:
  • Design maintenance process (software defects) using an ITIL ticketing system or similar,
  • Software requirements development process.
  • Software design review process (new software designs)
  • Software repository process
  • Software coding guidelines
  • Software release process
  • Software testing process
  • For every product development undertaken by Net Safety, the Senior Software Engineer shall create a software development plan for approval.
  • Actively promoting and participating in the pursuit and implementation of the Company’s values, philosophy, and strategic goals.
  • Participating in the effective deployment of a “Lean Enterprise” culture throughout the Company and supporting/participating in any related corporate “Lean” initiatives.
  • Complying with and participating in the continuous improvement of the Company’s Quality systems.
  • Complying with and participating in the continuous improvement of the Company’s Health, Safety, & Environmental programs.

Job Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science from an engineering school. An ABET-accredited engineering degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of applicable experience.
  • Experience with firmware and software design, with a demonstrated track record of repeated success in product delivery and market success.
  • PC Software development experience is an asset
  • Network management and development for TCP applications is an asset
  • Practical electronic development experience is an asset
  • Understanding and experience in the development of engineering test procedures and the creation of formal engineering test reports
