Role Overview
AMEC Environment and Infrastructure is seeking a Principal Pavement Technician to join our specialty pavement consultancy based in Beltsville, MD (metro Washington, DC), with staff located across our network of US offices. We are seeking a highly organized, motivated self-starter who is dedicated to providing high quality and professional field services.  This opportunity is the result of retirement. The incumbent is currently working a reduced-hour schedule, and is available for a period of transition. This is an excellent career opportunity for the right candidate.  

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Embraces AMEC’s Beyond Zero safety culture.
  • Manages field operations for pavement management and engineering projects for federal, state and local governments, and for industrial-commercial clients.
  • Operates a fleet of 6 specialized pavement data collection vehicles, and two support vehicles; Falling Weight Deflectometers, Roadway Profilers, Digital Imaging Vehicle, Truck-mounted Pavement Core Drill.
  • Becomes knowledgeable in the calibration, operation and routine maintenance of each piece of equipment.
  • Develops relationship with equipment vendors for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting of problems and repairs, and to maximize production time and to minimize down time.
  • Supervises a staff of 4 full-time and 2 seasonal technicians.
  • Works with Project Managers and Engineers to plan and deliver the field operations and data collection activities of projects, filling the project role of Field Services Coordinator.
  • Instills a sense of professionalism among the staff, to put forward knowledgeable, polished and capable services to external and internal clients.
  • Maintains an environment and attitude of preventative maintenance for equipment and vehicles as part of delivering on-time, high quality and reliable services.
  • Supports business development, proposals and budgeting by tracking and understanding the production rates of field activities, variations that may occur and risk factors.

 
Role Requirements  

  • An undergraduate degree or associates degree, with equivalencies considered.
  • 10 years work experience.
  • Must be highly organized and disciplined, with an ability to encourage and achieve the same in others.
  • Knowledge of roadway or airport pavement evaluation, testing or construction is required.
  • Specialized knowledge or experience with one or more the pavement testing equipment identified is advantageous.
  • While not expected to repair equipment, a background or aptitude in mechanics, electronics, electro hydraulics or similar is very desirable. 
  • Good computer skills are needed in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • May occasionally participate in field services with walking (up to full days).
  • Ability to lift 20-40 lbs.
  • Some local, regional and national travel is involved to initiate large projects, provide quality assurance and to audit field safety.
  • Must pass drug screen, background check, and must have an excellent driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (MVR) policy.
  • US Citizenship is required.
