Job Description: The Sr. Systems Administrator/Engineer will support research and development of enterprise technologies for use in the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) and the Navy Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NCAMS), including virtualization technology to operate NWDC's advanced simulation systems and enterprise information technology systems with reduced operator and hardware cost, improved flexibility in resource allocation, reduced system reconfiguration time, and improved security. The Sr. Systems Administrator/Engineer Engineer will work in cooperation with Engineering and Operations divisions to assess the current architecture and evolve future enterprise computing requirements towards virtualization where it makes sense. While keeping abreast of current virtualization disciplines, this position will work with technology solutions providers, evaluate effective solutions and make operational recommendations to NWDC management. Additional duties include authoring standard operating procedures, training of operations personnel and tier 2 technical support. Individual must work well independently as well as have strong team oriented skills. This position will report directly to the Standard Division Research and Development Technical Lead.Bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
Must Currently Hold and be able to maintain a US Secret clearance
3 + years of experience in systems administration with 2 years of experience working with virtualization technologies
Advanced Technical Certifications including knowledge of virtualization, networking, storage and compute server platforms.
Experience with VMware ESXi server 5.x
Experience with Windows Servers 2003/2008,Windows desktop operating systems XP and Windows 7
Experience with Redhat Enterprise Linux 5/6
Experience with Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guidelines
Experience with VMware vCenter Server
Experience with VMware View
Familiarity with VDI technologies and protocols
Strong technical troubleshooting skills
Ability to read and digest technical information
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues within multiple systems
Ability to visualize overall view of systems and conceptualize and document creative solutions
Strong attention to detail
Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities
Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with iSCSI a plus
Experience with Dell Equallogic Storage devices a plus
