Job Title:  Technical Assistance Advocate (TAA)



Location:  APG, MD


Status:  Full Time, Exempt


Minimum Government Security Clearance Required:  DoD Secret (active)

Program:  In 1982, Congress through the Small Business Innovation Development Act, established the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to foster the involvement of U.S. based small businesses in federal research and development (R&D).  The SBIR program is designed to increase the participation of small, high technology firms in the federal R&D endeavor.



Primary responsibility is to provide “Technical Assistance Services to Small Business Concerns Engaged in SBIR Projects.”


Provide support and conduct the day-to-day efforts required.  Support Army SBIR PMO efforts to develop a collaborative working environment including, but not necessarily limited to, identifying organizational program requirements, integrating requirements into program implementation tasks and providing support in coordinating program management, communication and execution of tasks.  Provide necessary assistance and support to the accomplishment of the SBIR mission.


TAAs serve as field agents for the SBIR PM and are strategically placed at Army research facilities to cover the
breadth of Army SBIR involvement. The TAA’s role involves interaction with laboratory, PEO/PM, and small
business personnel to keep them informed on Army SBIR, answer questions and support ongoing SBIR efforts, and
to facilitate transition opportunities.



TAAs shall be senior technical analysts with an advanced technical degree(s) and at least 5 years of relevant experience in DOD acquisition or Science and Technology activities, to include advanced management, analytical, technical, and communication skills and a keen and diverse understanding of scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles.


Experience with and knowedge of the following US Government agencies is highly desireable: Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC), the Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC), the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD), and the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Research & Engineering (ASD(R&E))
