Technical Project Lead

About the Job

The Technical Project Lead will function as a technical and team lead for agile-based projects delivered by CITYTECH or its clients. The Technical Project Lead will also be responsible for working with the customer to define business and technical requirements; managing the project schedule, budget and velocity; writing customer-centric user stories; technical architecture, prioritizing the active tasks and curating the project backlog.  The perfect candidate is one who does not want to give up their ability to be hands-on with software development, but also wants a mix of project leadership and client interaction.  Candidates must be organized, strategic, energetic, deeply knowledgeable about the latest web technologies, enterprise architecture and trends, and most importantly, passionate about their work.

 

Responsibilities

      Participate in the complete project lifecycle process from estimating to execution (strategy, inception, budgeting, architecture, development, quality assurance, and delivery)

      Partner with the team to identify appropriate technology solutions

      Dive in and contribute to solving technical challenges – either code, architecture or systems related when it makes sense and your team needs help

      Prepare reports for customer and CITYTECH upper management regarding status of active projects

      Assist in the development and oversight of project related documentation, including: project summaries, competitive evaluations, sitemaps, wireframes, user stories, test plans, personas, user experience documents, metric plans, etc.

      Maintain sprint based project plan and manage project backlog

      Function as process and customer champion

      Participate in the daily, sprint and retrospective sessions

      Manage the client relationship and expectations

      Be aware of new opportunities that can grow out of existing projects

      Manage code release strategies

      Participate in the development of case studies related to project work

      Other duties as assigned 


 

Requirements

      Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related discipline

      5+ yrs. progressive experience in software engineering and recent team leadership experience or a strong desire to move into a project leadership position while still being able to be hands-on when required

      Strong hands-on experience of Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) including frameworks and supporting technologies such as Spring, Hibernate, Maven, OSGI, Web Services, etc.

      Knowledge of Agile/Iterative methodologies; e.g.., Scrum, XP, Lean, Agile Unified

      Demonstrated ability to motivate and guide team members by example and elimination of roadblocks to ensure high team performance

      Strong knowledge of project tools; e.g., Git, Continuous Integration Server, Nexus, Microsoft Visio, Atlassian Jira, Atlassian Confluence, Pivotal Tracker or Rally

      Ability to set expectations, develop project plans, manage personal workload and communicate 
effectively to all levels of stakeholders

      Proven, successful history of enterprise level implementations and integrations

      Able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

      Background in technical architecture, digital strategy, or business analysis

      Strong communication skills (written, verbal, non-verbal, etc.)

      Comfortable communicating to Marketing and IT Executives

 

Other Competencies:

      Experience with web content management and mobile application development plus

      Account management experience a plus

      Experience with the Red Hat JBoss middleware platform.

      Willingness to learn new planning and project management techniques

      Ability to maintain focus on the overall project goals

      Understanding of common usability issues
