Position Summary:



Pall FSI is an industry leader in the design, manufacturing, marketing & selling of innovative quality liquid filtration products to the automotive, coatings, chemical, petrochemical, food & beverage processing and general industrial markets throughout the world.



The individual will be responsible for the success of Pall FSI Michigan City multi-shift plant operations. The right candidate will plan and direct the utilization of facilities, equipment, materials and manpower. The candidate will direct, implement and maintain the manufacturing plans, policies and programs to improve quality, delivery time and lower overall costs. Ensures effective EH&S and ISO Certified programs are in compliance with company and regulation standards.




Responsibilities:




  • Create an organizational development strategy which will drive the necessary skills and competencies in the workforce to meet its customer requirements.

  • Provide successful implementation of Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.

  • Provide coaching and development opportunities for the direct reports that will allow each individuals potential to be maximized and used effectively.

  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.

  • Have direct management responsibilities in the Cutting Room, Felt Plant, Sewing, Heat Seal, Polyweld and Injection Molding areas.

  • Responsible for safely producing quality products and maintaining equipment in these areas.

  • Responsible for the morale, welfare, and safety of all departmental employees.

  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all safety policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for the administration of all pertinent company and departmental policies and procedures to include disciplining and counseling employees when appropriate and required.

  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevention of operational delays.

  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.

  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.

  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.

  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications.

  • Resolves worker complaints or confers with Human Resources Manager on unsettled grievances for disposition.

  • Inspects products at all stages to ensure quality.

  • Ensure that their supervisors properly administer the safety program as outlined in the Pall FSI Safety Policy.

  • To have a departmental safety procedure book with a copy of the procedures and revisions sent to the plant safety representative and to Corporate Safety Manager.

  • Counseling and, where necessary, disciplining supervisors who do not properly administer the safety program in their departments.

  • Ensuring that a safe environment exists for those regular and temporary employees who work in their area of responsibility.

  • Keep employees updated on new or changed safety rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Developing cooperative attitudes and safety among their employees.

  • Discussing on and off the job safety with each employee during monthly departmental safety meetings.

  • Ensure that everyone keeps their area of responsibility neat and clean.

  • Accurately recording, investigating, and reporting accidents which occur in production. After reviewing the accidents, responsible for informing the employees of methods to help prevent recurrence of the same or similar types of accidents and injuries.

  • Counsel employees regarding safety and, when necessary, give disciplinary counseling to employees who have committed safety violations, or those who have higher than normal frequency of accidents.

  • Jointly responsible, with other managers, for writing procedures for safe operations of equipment in their department.




Skills and Knowledge:



  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and safety procedures.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  • Manages subordinate supervisors and work leaders who supervise a total of 85 to 100 employees in the Sewing Department, Cutting Department, Felt Plant, Polyweld, CY/Pack, and Injection Molding. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; establishing work priorities; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering or Science or Textile, MBA is desirable



Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or general education degree

  • 3-5 years Supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge of 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and/or Six Sigma

  • Must have proven experience with successful implementation and use of Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.

  • Statistical Process Control expertise required.
