UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator

Epic is a national leader in software development for healthcare systems. We create and implement a wide range of integrated software for many of the largest healthcare organizations in the country. Our software improves patient care and reduces costs. Over the last 15 years we have seen steady growth, and currently, organizations using our software care for about 157 million people around the world, including North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. That means that nearly 1 in 2 people in the U.S. are directly affected by the work we do.

Beyond all of that Epic is an exciting, innovative place to work.

Position Summary

We are seeking a systems administrator to help install, configure, and support our internal development, quality assurance, and test systems.

You'll explore new versions of operating systems, provisioning systems, and HA packages, develop creative and clever solutions to meet development and testing needs, create utility and automation scripts, work with the latest models of vendor-supplied hardware for large system scalability testing, create/maintain/support Epic's internal and internet-facing systems, and improve monitoring of Epic's internal server environments.

Our internal server environment is comprised of a variety of mainstream UNIX systems (AIX, HP-UX, Solaris), Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS, SUSE), OpenVMS and Windows servers. We are heavy users of virtualization on AIX, HP-UX, VMware and Solaris.

As part of a relatively small team, you'll have the opportunity to help evaluate technology and influence changes in Epic's internal infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or several years relevant work experience
  • A history of academic and professional success
  • Proficiency with one or more UNIX operating systems (e.g. AIX, HP-UX, Solaris) or Linux, VMware ESXi/vSphere and Windows is helpful
  • Relocation to the Madison, WI area is required and covered
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

About Epic

At Epic, you’ll work at the intersection of two incredibly challenging fields: medicine and technology. Half of the U.S. population has a current Epic record and we’re expanding internationally as well, so you’ll have the opportunity to make an impact that is not only meaningful but also far-reaching.

Epic is private and employee-owned. We develop and support our software in-house, and have enjoyed steady growth since the company was founded in 1979. Our customers - mid-size and large healthcare systems, academic medical institutions, and children’s hospitals - are crucial partners in our effort to improve healthcare for care providers and for their patients.
